Growing Through Resistance: Why Most People Quit Right Before the Breakthrough

Ever find yourself on the verge of quitting right when you're about to breakthrough? That's exactly where I found myself recently, walking through rain—both literally and figuratively—while wrestling with personal struggles and professional milestones simultaneously.

The hardest truth I've learned is that resistance isn't telling us to stop—it's actually our compass pointing toward growth. When my world felt like it was falling apart while reaching a business milestone I'd worked toward for years, I had to make a choice: let circumstances break me or let them transform me. On that rain-soaked walk, nothing around me changed, but everything within me shifted.

Through this experience, I've discovered three powerful strategies for pushing through resistance that I'm sharing with you today. First, reframe resistance as a sign you're on the right track rather than a signal to retreat. Second, commit to doing the small, hard things anyway—those uncomfortable actions build your capacity rep by rep. Finally, anchor yourself in faith and vision, remembering that even messy steps count toward your growth. The only people who don't reach their breakthrough are those who quit in the middle, letting their ego convince them that avoiding disappointment is safer than embracing discomfort.

What resistance are you facing right now? What breakthrough are you chasing? Take a screenshot of this episode, tag me, and let me know—because naming it is the first step to moving through it. Your comfort zone will lie to you, but the life you want is waiting on the other side of resistance. Stop quitting on yourself before it gets good.

Speaker 1:

Welcome to the she Lost it podcast. I'm Stephanie, and this is a space for you to lose what's been holding you back. Talk about real growth, find courage and step into the life you were meant for. Okay, friends, welcome back to the she Lost it podcast. I took a few weeks off to really decide what it was I was going to share next, because there's just been so much I've been wrestling with. Do I share another eye-opening, jaw-dropping revelation from Mom's Journal, or do I share something else, deeply personal, that I've been walking out in real time? So I decided for this episode to share that. But do not worry, the next episode of the journal is coming, but today we are going to be taking a small detour, so let's get right into it. Okay, I need you to hear me, I need you to stop whatever you're doing and I need you to really listen.

Speaker 1:

Most people quit right before it gets good, right before the breakthrough, right before the win, right before they become the version of themselves they've been dreaming about, right before the level up. And do you know why they quit? Because they want to protect their ego from the sting of possible disappointment. It's easier to say well, I didn't really try than to go all in and face resistance head on. But this is what I need you to hear Resistance is not a sign to quit. Resistance is the bridge to your breakthrough, and I'm talking about this today because I've been right in the middle of that.

Speaker 1:

So this past month has been hard, like hard, personally hard. I had to work through a lot of things that were bubbling up to the surface, that I needed to deal with old wounds that were rearing their ugly head, and I've been working through this but also been working towards a milestone in my business, a pretty big one, the kind that you've been working through and working towards a milestone in my business, a pretty big one, the kind that you've been working through and working towards for years. But while that was happening, it felt like my whole world was falling apart. It was such a stark contrast. My life felt heavy and uncertain, but my business was reaching this milestone and I felt completely alone in it. Not because I was alone in it, but I felt that way and, to be honest, my finances weren't exactly where I wanted them to be. I had to get very smart about my money. I had to swallow my pride. I had to make some phone calls to rearrange some things and, if I'm really honest, I hate asking for help. It's embarrassing to me, or at least it used to be. I'm still learning this the hard way. Asking for help is not embarrassing, it's just human.

Speaker 1:

So I went on a walk to clear my head one day and in the middle of all of this and in the middle of my walk, the rain started pouring down. And you know what? All I could do was laugh Out there in the rain, completely soaked, and I thought okay, god, I get it. I can either let this season break me or I can let it wash off all the pressure I've been holding and just keep walking. So I just kept walking and by the time I got back home, nothing in my circumstances had changed, but everything inside of me had. I felt lighter, I felt clear, I felt ready to keep going, and maybe that is what resistance does. It feels heavy until you decide to just keep walking through it, and then it levels you up. So that walk reminded me of a lesson that I have had to learn over and over and over again Resistance is not here to destroy us, it's here to grow us. So I'm going to share how I push through resistance, how I've actually grown from it, because I know some of you are in the middle of your own walking in the rain moment yourself.

Speaker 1:

So, number one you have to reframe resistance. The first thing I do reframe it. When resistance shows up, my old self wants to say see, this is a sign you should stop, you're not ready. But my new self, she says, oh, this is just a test, this is proof that I'm actually on the right track and I am on the edge of a breakthrough. The moment you can name it and reframe it, it loses its power. Number two do the small, hard thing. Anyway, you don't grow your capacity in one giant leap. You grow it rep by rep, like a muscle. For me that's maybe sending a scary message, or making those uncomfortable phone calls or taking that walk in the rain instead of curling up under a blanket and hiding.

Speaker 1:

Little actions in the middle of resistance are where the growth happens and that's like you're up in the gym of life. Number three anchor in faith and vision. So I've learned that God will redirect me sometimes, but he will never waste a step. Even the messy, shaky steps in the rain count. So when resistance hits, I remind myself. This is where the new version of me is built. If I keep walking in faith and in vision, I will come out stronger and my life will expand to meet that new version of me. So here is what I want you to write down Resistance is not the enemy. Resistance is the gem, where your next level self is built. And the only people who don't get to their breakthrough are the ones who quit in the middle, the ones who let their ego convince them that protecting themselves from disappointment is safer than growing through the discomfort. So here's my challenge for you Take a screenshot of this episode and tag me.

Speaker 1:

Tell me one of two things.

Speaker 1:

Number one what is the resistance you are facing right now?

Speaker 1:

Or number two, what is the breakthrough you are chasing? I want to know. I want to walk this out with you. I want to help you through your breakthrough, because naming it is the first step to moving through it, and I'm going to say this one more time for the person who needs to hear it Stop quitting on yourself before it gets good. Your comfort zone will lie to you, your ego will try to protect you, but the life you want is waiting on the other side of that resistance, your resistance, is your compass. To keep going. If this episode spoke to you, share it with a friend who needs this reminder today. Save it so you can come back to it when resistance hits again, because it will hit again and send it to the person you know is about to give up on themselves. Push the weight, grow your capacity, get to your breakthrough and then come tell me about it, because I am over here cheering for you. And if no one has told you today, I believe in you. See you next time.
